I’m going to be honest and say from the get go that scheduling in a half day once a week of straight up play and fellowship with friends for B used to freak me out a little. At this point in his schooling, and with all the activities he had been involved with, spending a better part of a day out and about romping through the woods was enough to make me a wee bit anxious.

And then, after taking a breather this summer, and cutting back on the number of activities LB is involved in (and thereby, the number of hours we spend on the road) it dawned on me what a blessing this Wednesday Park Day thing really is.

For one, B gets to spend time with some of his favorite people here in VA. For another, it provides us both with a great midweek break. A half day of school followed by a few hours of fellowship with some pretty amazing ladies and kiddos is so uplifting and rejuvenating.

So today, after a pretty productive morning of schooling we headed out to the bowling ally to meet up with his friends.

And then we headed to the Petersburg National Battlefield so the boys could play. I’m always amazed the park rangers don’t say anything about a big group of boys chasing each other around with duct tape weapons, but they don’t. In fact, they wave.

Yay for park days, for fellowship with friends, and for realizing the importance of friendship and play.
